Call Schedule           Block Schedule             Conference Schedule

Our four-year radiology program is fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education. The program provides excellent training in all modalities of radiology, and graduating residents are fully prepared for the challenges of private practice or the rigors of further fellowship training.

There is exceptionally strong training in interventional radiology and by graduation residents will have personally performed a vast volume and variety of procedures.

The diverse pathology at the hospital is one of the program’s strongest points.

The Department of Radiology performs 170,000 diagnostic exams per year (including 4,300 nuclear medicine exams, 13,000 body CT scans, 12,000 head CT scans, 9,200 ultrasound and 5,000 MRI procedures).

There are currently 20 residents and spots for four fellows.

The first year resident spends the first six months learning the elements of pediatric, GI / GU, ultrasound, CT, and general radiology prior to taking night call. These first six months include a series of lectures specifically tailored for first-year residents to prepare them for call.

The following table is an estimate of weeks spent on each rotation during the training at Harbor-UCLA.

The frequency of in-house night call averages once per nine nights, including weekends and holidays. Angiography call schedules are separate from the in-house radiology call schedule. Angiography call consists of one week blocks of home call, divided among the residents on the service. There are plans to switch to a night float system next year.

There are at least ten hours of formal departmental conferences per week. These include weekly interdisciplinary conferences in chest, nuclear medicine, neuroradiology, vascular surgery / interventional radiology, and MSK / Orthopedic conducted by the radiology staff and staff of corresponding hospital departments.

Most of our residents go on to further fellowship training.
